Update Your Homepage

By Hazel L. Burgess

Sounds obvious doesn’t it?.... but it is very common for websites to have little or no changing content on their homepage.

Do you have a website and want to know how to make it more successful? The best advice that can be given to any website owner is to update your content. Review what you have and update any new information about your company, products and services. This seems simple, but it should be done at least every few weeks and if possible more often.

The homepage is your window to the world. Many visitors will arrive and leave without visiting any of your other pages so make sure that your most important messages are clearly visible and that the content changes regularly.

Right now you are probably thinking, why do I need to update my content so often? Well there are a number of reasons for this. The first is user experience. If possible customers come back to your website more than once before making a purchase from you, seeing updated content will give credibility to your business. In addition, the mere fact that you update your content regularly may get them coming back to your site more often and so increases your chance of converting a sale.

On the reverse of this, consider whether you have a news section on your website. If you do, but have not updated it for several months, what sort of impression will this give? Many potential customers will look at your website and may think that if you can't keep people updated through your website then what else will you fail to do.    read the full article

Put Business On The Google Map!

Envisager Studio will soon begin work on a couple of annual events in support of our local community. Working with Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego, we will be updating several microsites which we previously developed for the organization's annual events and galas.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of San DiegoThe Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Visit the 2007 microsites and don't forget to make a donation:

Make-A-Wish Gala
A Season of Wishes
Make-A-Wish Golf Classic

When you search on Google for local goods or services, the top listings are often in the form of a Google map with pins on it.  If Google hasn't indexed your web site and business in the form of a pin (and assuming that you want people to come to you) you should get yourself a Google Pin. How?

Just go to Google Business Solutions and click on "Get Listed on Google Maps" in the top right hand corner. This will take you to the Google Local Business Centre. You will need to create a Google account if you don't already have one. Follow the instructions, and put yourself on the map!

QUICK PC & MAC TIPS

PC Users
Typing a URL in Internet Explorer's address bar in the format http://www.domain.com? Don't waste your time on all those unnecessary characters. Type only the domain and press Ctrl-Enter. IE will automatically fill it in.

MAC Users
A badly formatted DNS entry in your Network preferences will force OS X to take about 30 seconds longer to authenticate users as they log in. Make sure the DNS entry is the correct one for your task.
